The Ouachita Mountains are south of the Ozarks. The mountains are rich in underground minerals. The major river in the Ouachita Mountains is the Ouachita River. One major city in the Ouachitas is Hot Springs.
Outdoors
If you're looking for something outdoors to do in the Ouachita Mountains, the Crater of Diamonds State Park is the place to go. Located in Murfreesboro, AR. Not only is it fun for the whole family, it is the only state park in the United States that has diamonds. You can have loads of fun with your family and friends digging for diamonds. Make sure you have tools for digging in the dirt.
In City
A place that is more for people who don't exactly enjoy state parks and lakes can visit an in-city spot located in Hot Springs, AR. It is a casino in the Ouachita Mountains. They have games but the main event of Oaklawn would be their horse races. People from all over the state and surrounding states come to Oaklawn.
Historic
Many people visit Arkansas for historic sites. One historic site is the second largest mountain in Arkansas known as Queen Wilhelmina State Park. The lodge on the mountain is named Queen Wilhelmina after a young queen from the Netherlands in 1898. Basically because the railroad that went through the Ouachita Mountains was mostly financed by Dutch interest. It was named "Wilhelmina Inn" and shortly after got the nickname "Castle In the Sky". Located in Mena, AR.
